Flocel Sabaté at the Meeting on Medieval Identities (September)
On September 11-12, 2026, the Historical Institute at the University of Wrocław hosted the international conference "Assimilation, transformation, stabilisation? Strategies for the functioning of heterogeneous political communities in the Middle Ages (5th-15th centuries)". The event delivered thought-provoking lectures and lively discussions on the fluidity of medieval identities and efforts to harmonize inter-ethnic relations across multi-ethnic political communities.
Flocel Sabaté, member of our research group, actively participated in the sessions with his paper, "Ethnicity, purity and moral hygiene in medieval Catalonia", joining other international scholars in exploring these complex historical dynamics.
This meeting served as a workshop for the project "Communication and conflict within multi-ethnic political communities in medieval Latin Europe (9th-15th centuries)", generously funded by the National Science Centre (NCN), Poland (Opus 29, No. 2023/49/B/HS3/00046), and organized by the Institute of History at the University of Wrocław.
New Publication by Sergi Tella in the Journal of Medieval Iberian Studies (July)
Our colleague Sergi Tella has just published the article "Missi Dominici and Carolingian royal delegation in the Spanish March" in the latest issue of the Journal of Medieval Iberian Studies (16/2 2026).
In this new study, Tella explores the mechanisms of Carolingian royal delegation and the role of the missi dominici in the administrative and political governance of the Spanish March during the Middle Ages.
Working meeting in Cabestany (June)
On 10th June 2026, Flocel Sabaté, Gemma Carnisé and Martí Vilamajó, members of our research group, participated in a working meeting of the ROMTUR project in Cabestany (France).

San Gimignano Medieval History Workshop (June)
Research stay in Bamberg (May)
Our colleague Sergi Tella has completed a one-week teaching and research stay at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg.
During his stay (may 2026), he delivered the seminar "Royal Delegation in Peripheral Territories: The Spanish March and Beyond" and participated in the colloquium "Consensus and Collective Decision Making in Ninth- and Tenth-Century Catalan Charters," organized by the Zentrum für Mittelalterstudien.
Research stay in Viena (March-May)
Isaac Lampurlanés, "Beatriu de Pinós" Research Fellow, has completed his 3-month stay as a visiting researcher at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
From March to May 2026, the researcher visited several archives and libraries in Viena to examine medieval manuscripts containing the "Pharetra fidei contra iudaeos/Errores Iudaeorum", texts that constitute the main axis of his research within the Beatriu de Pinós fellowship.
CLARIAH-CAT Network (March)
On 26 March 2026, the Department of Research and Universities hosted the kick-off event for CLARIAH-CAT, the Catalan Multidisciplinary Network for Digital Humanities.
Flocel Sabaté, on behalf of our research group, took part in this event.

International Collaborative Workshop (March)
International Collaborative Workshop: Historiographical Traditions and Academic Training in Medieval Studies
On 27 March 2026, a seminar organised by researchers from the Universities of Lleida (Clara Renedo and Sergi Tella) and Bamberg took place, bringing together students and researchers from various universities and disciplines related to medieval studies to explore how academic training influences the way in which medieval sources are read, scrutinised and interpreted. By bringing together students from different backgrounds, the workshop fostered a more reflective understanding of what it means to ‘work with medieval sources’ in contemporary research.
Núria Preixens defended her Doctoral Thesis (January)
On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, our colleague, Núria Preixens Vidal, has defended her doctoral thesis, titled "L’Almoina de Lleida al segle XIV. Una institució d’assistència i caritat" obtaining the distinction Excellent.

Research stay (September-December)
Sergi Rexach Camps, PhD fellow, has done a research stay in Bologna from 15th September to 19th December under the supervision of Professor Tommaso Duranti (Professore associato, Dipartimento di Storia Culture Civiltà, Università degli Studi di Bologna). During his stay, he has consulted different documents for his thesis in the 'Biblioteca Universitaria del Dipartimento di Storia Culture Civiltà', 'Biblioteca Giuridica "Antonio Cicu"' and 'Biblioteca Giuseppe Dossetti'.

On 25th November 2025, Sergi Rexach attended the Conference «Semper Renovanda»: Nuevas perspectivas en historia de la Iglesia with the paper "La justícia del obispo de Girona. Autoridad, derecho y escritura en la Edad Media". The conference was organized by Proyecto MOVICAST (Movilidad de personas, negocios y valores entre las ciudades de Castilla y el Atlántico (siglos XIV-XVI), PID2022-136241NB-C21,Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha).

On 30th and 31st November 2025, Clara Renedo attended the "VII Seminari d'Estudis Hagiogràfics. La santedat en clau femenina" with the conference "Recepció de la literatura hagiogràfica femenina llatina. El cas de la Catedral de Barcelona (s. XIV-XV)". The congress was organized by Departament de Filologia Catalana (Universitat d'Alacant).

Flocel Sabaté at Parlament de Catalunya (October)
Last 15th October, Flocel Sabaté was invited to the Economy and Finance Committee of the Parlament de Catalunya to talk about the economic situation of Catalonia in the Middle Ages.

On 10 and 11 September 2025, Isaac Lampurlanés, Clara Renedo and Sergi Tella participated in the "Early Career Workshop of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Ibero-Mediävistik" on "Current Approaches and Challenges in Medieval Iberian Studies", organized by The Institute for Medieval Research (IMAFO) at the The Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), in Wien, Austria.

Flocel Sabaté attended the congress "Pervivencia y Metamorfosis del Mundo Medieval en el Imaginario Moderno" with the closing conference "La Edad Media en la construcción del ciudadano ideal (Siglos XIX-XX)". The congress was organized by the research group "Grupo de Investigación IHA (Iconografía e Historia del Arte)" of the Universitat Jaume I.

Doctoral Thesis Defense
Our research group celebrates the graduation of Sergi Tella Pàmies, who defended his doctoral thesis: "Conquista y articulación social de la frontera carolingia en el noreste de la Península Ibérica (siglos VIII-IX)", supervised by Dr. Flocel Sabaté Curull (Universitat de Lleida) and Amancio Isla Frez (Universitat Rovira i Virgili). Congratulations!
Research stay
Sergi Tella did a research stay in Universitat de les Illes Balears. During his stay, he did the seminar "Marcha nostra custodienda est terra marique. La Mediterrània occidental a l'alta edat mitjana" at Arxiu del Regne de Mallorca.

Flocel Sabaté and Luciano Gallinari, attended the International Congress “Past, Present, Future 2024: Rituals, ceremonies and símbols in the Middle Ages. Croatia and the European Context (800-1600)” organized from 5 to 7 September in Pula, Croatia.
Scientific articles
Jordi Bolós has published two articles in the dossier ‘Water and landscape history in the Crown of Aragon’ in the journal Agua y Territorio, edited by Universidad de Jaén. The Journal is available in Open Access here.
